Vegan Lahmacun

Lahmacun is a Turkish pizza traditionally made with meat on flatbread. My vegan alternative replaces mince with tempeh and is packed full of aromatic spices you’re sure to love. Give it a try. You won’t regret it.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups wholewheat flour

  • 1 tsp dry yeast

  • 1 cup warm water

Topping

  • 1 package tempeh, shredded

  • 1 cup mushrooms, diced

  • 1 red capsicum, diced

  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed

  • 1 handful fresh parsley

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp allspice

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1/4 tsp chilli flakes or cayenne

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 4 tbsp tomato paste

  • Lemon wedges to serve

Method

Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast and water and knead until a dough forms. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. While the dough rests, add all the toppings to a food processor and blend until a paste forms.

Once the dough has rested, roll it out into a pizza base and transfer to a lined baking tray. Spread the topping over the dough all the way to its edges.

Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the dough is fully cooked.

Slice into equal pieces and serve with lemon wedges. Enjoy!
