Heart-Healthy Hummus

Hummus is an extremely simple and versatile condiment that can be added to your home-made nourish bowls, falafel sandwiches or thinned out to make a delicious salad dressing. My luxuriously smooth hummus has the added benefit of being heart-healthy thanks to the addition of nigella seeds.

These seeds possess cardio-protective benefits via its antioxidant and antihypertensive actions. In fact, studies show nigella seeds significantly improve cardiovascular function, protecting against hypertension-induced tissue damage and oxidative stress. The best part is, you only really need 1/4 tsp a day to relish in its benefits.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas

  • 1/4 cup tahini

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp nigella seeds

  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 1/4 cup)

  • 1/4 cup cold water

Throw all the ingredients, except the water, into a high speed blender. While blending, slowly pour in the water until a smooth consistency forms.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.

Serve with veggie sticks, pita bread or on top of homemade nourish bowls.
