3 Ways To Prevent Stress-Related Breakouts

Ever noticed your skin breaking out during times of stress? Researchers have found a significant connection between your mind and the state of your skin.

Stress hormones increase corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) which triggers our inflammatory response and increases sebum production, resulting in acne and breakouts. Chronic stress has also been linked to dehydration, increasing the prevalence of fine lines and wrinkles.

Practising these stress reduction techniques can help decrease CRH and clear your skin.

Meditation

As little as 10 minutes of meditation per day can help relieve stress and boost your positive response to future stressors. There are loads of apps you can use to help with this. My favourite is Insight Timer.

If you’re new to meditation or pressed for time, try taking 10 slow, deep breathes. Count to 4 as you inhale and 4 as you exhale.

Exercise

Physical activity is an extremely helpful coping mechanism for stress. It also produces endorphins which are hormones that increase dopamine production, elevating your mood and providing stress relief.

Eat Well

The foods you eat directly impact your mental health. Plant-based foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and grains can have a significant positive impact on your mood. To improve your mental wellbeing, aim to have at least one cup of vegetables with lunch and dinner.

Stress is a common problem in our society and is nothing to feel guilt or shame about. Try incorporating these three techniques into your daily life and see if they work for you.

As stress can impact the state of your skin it’s important to nourish yourself from the outside, too. Check out my range of natural skincare products. Designed to hydrate, soften and deeply moisturise your skin so you have less to worry about!
