5 Daily Habits to Keep Your Health On Track

As perfectly imperfect humans we need to frequently check in with ourselves in an effort to ensure we’re keeping on track to a healthy body and life. Consistency is key, especially when it comes to these 5 habits.

1. Plan Your Meals

“If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail” Benjamin Franklin.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - meal prep is your number one best tool for creating a healthy life. We can set the intention of eating healthy but when that hunger hits it's all too easy to order a quick indulgent meal off UberEats than to take the time to make a healthy home-cooked meal.

Having nutritious meals on hand makes healthy eating a whole lot easier and promotes health, increases energy and keeps the majority of illnesses away.

2. Choose your workout outfit the night before

Choosing the outfit you want to train in the night before your workout saves you time in the morning and bypasses those “I should sleep in” or “maybe I’ll work out later in the day thoughts from seeping in. Your outfit is laid and your gym bag is packed - no excuses.

3. Stay hydrated

Keeping hydrated has thousands of benefits and among the many include joint lubrication, the transport of nutrients to cells, proper organ functioning and improved sleep quality, mood and cognition.

This is not a step you want to skip although, I’m the first to admit I haven’t always abided by this habit. A simple thing I recently tried was switching my water bottle from a clunky bottle that spilt water on my face every time I went to take a sip to an ‘aesthetically pleasing’ straw bottle that I actually enjoyed having nearby. I went from a few big gulps of water a day to drinking 3 whole litres without even trying.

4. Declutter your mind

This is so important for your mental and cognitive health. I recently wrote a blog post all about it that you can check out here.

5. Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day

Sleep is an integral part of human health and a lack of good sleep quality can greatly impact daily functioning.

Going to bed and waking at different times every day can throw your natural sleep-wake cycle off balance, making it harder to get good quality sleep. Trying to catch up on missed sleep is ineffective and results in mental fatigue and physical exhaustion and isn't best for your health overall. Aim to get to bed at the same time each night.
